Montpellier-Paris in 2 hours, it's possible !

mission possible montpellier paris orly

With the extension of the Paris metro to Orly, the Mediterranean coast is now just two hours away from the city center, ideal for tourists and business travelers alike.

The metro to Orly: a legacy of the Olympic Games

Line 14 connects the airport to the heart of Paris in 25 minutes.

With the Olympic and Paralympic Games now over, it's time to assess not only the sporting and tourism aspects but also the legacy left by these two events. Beyond the new venues—such as the aquatic center—that hosted the competitions, the construction of transport infrastructure will significantly impact the daily lives of Parisians and visitors alike in the coming years. The extension of the Paris metro's Line 14 to Orly Airport is undoubtedly the most spectacular of these infrastructures, with the construction of 14 kilometers of underground tracks through the southern part of the capital and seven new stations. Announced years ago, the work was accelerated to coincide with the sporting event. Mission accomplished, with the inauguration of this extension on June 24.

What does it change for travelers?

A fast, reliable, and comfortable metro for stress-free travel.

Until now, travelers arriving at Orly from Montpellier with Transavia had to juggle various transport options to reach the heart of the capital: the automatic Orlyval train to Antony, then the RER B, Orlybus, or a taxi, with the risk of getting stuck in traffic. At peak times, the transfer from the airport could take almost as long as the flight between Montpellier and Orly (1h25 to 1h30)! Line 14, equipped with brand-new trains, has all the advantages: speed (only 25 minutes to reach the Châtelet-Les Halles station), comfort, and affordable pricing. It meets the needs of both tourists visiting Paris for a few days and business travelers making a day trip who need reliable transportation.

Montpellier-Paris in two hours, mission possible!

Montpellier Airport launches an original advertising campaign

With Line 14, it now takes just two hours (1h30 by plane and 25 minutes by metro) to connect the Mediterranean coast to the heart of Paris. To promote this new development, Montpellier-Méditerranée Airport has launched a playful advertisement created by the Nîmes-based agency K Prodz and titled Mission Possible, a nod to the movie Mission Impossible. It features a secret agent heading to the Opera of Montpellier while actually having an appointment at the Opera of... Paris. No worries! With Line 14, he’ll arrive on time in the capital. Unlike Mission Impossible’s hero Ethan Hunt, who favors luxury cars, he’ll be taking the metro instead. The ad, broadcast on local TV, in cinemas, and on social media, comes with a QR Code providing all the practical details.

How does it work?

A specific fare: €10.30 for a one-way trip

The terminal station of Line 14, Orly station, is located across from Terminal 3, where Transavia flights from Montpellier arrive. Fully automated (no risk of driver strikes!), the metro speeds to Paris at 80 km/h, with only 85 seconds between trains during peak hours! It serves several stations in the city center, such as Bercy, Gare de Lyon, Châtelet-Les Halles, and Saint-Lazare.

Note: a special fare has been introduced, with a one-way ticket costing €10.30. Tickets can be purchased from machines upon arrival and loaded onto a reusable Navigo Easy card (€2). To save time, it’s best to buy your digital ticket in advance on the RATP Bonjour app, which you can then use directly from your smartphone.

A few more works in the coming months...

Disruptions are planned in the evenings and on certain Sundays

RATP has announced additional work and tests in the coming months, which may impact your travel plans. Specifically, Line 14 will be closed every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening (except on October 15 and November 11) starting from 10 p.m., at least until December 19. These closures won’t affect travelers heading to Montpellier, as the last Transavia flight departs Orly at 8:25 p.m. However, Line 14 will be entirely closed all day on certain Sundays: September 15 and 29, October 13, and November 17 and 24. Plan ahead and use alternative transportation. More interruptions are expected starting in January 2025. For more information, visit the RATP website.
